Arsenal made it to the second round of UEFA Champion League by the skin of their teeth last night to ensure that the English Premier League has the maximum four representatives in the knock out stage of the competition. The Gunners join Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea who have all made it through to the round of 16 of the Europe elite football clubs tournament.
However, after losing their final match to Napoli, Arsene Wenger’s side slipped to the second place in their group and faced a prospect of facing either one of Europe’s giants – Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Barcelona. Even if they avoid the big three, the alternative choice isn’t great either. Both PSG and Atletico Madrid are no push-overs and are riding high on both their domestic league and Champion League. So Arsenal can expect a very tough Champion League’s week the next time they are involved in the competition. (more…)

The inclusion of David De Gea and Petr Cech among the four shortlisted goalkeepers to be named in European League Best IX shows that English Premier League goalkeepers are highly rated. Although we can expect voters for the continent’s Team of the Year, consisting of Euro sports journo, will favour Bayern Munich and German’s goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, who had an excellent 2013-2014 season, the standard shown by Premier League’s goalkeepers are actually not that far from Neuer.
