KUALA LUMPUR: INDONESIA plans to introduce the live-out concept for its maids working in Malaysia to protect them from abuse by employers. The labour attache at the Indonesian embassy here, Agus Triyanto, said the republic was studying the plan and would discuss it soon with Malaysian authorities. “Under this plan, maid agencies have to provide accommodation for the maids who will only be required to work eight hours a day, just like other categories of workers. If the maids, who will be paid a minimum monthly salary of RM600 under this plan, are required to work longer, they have to be paid overtime” He said the maids would have one day of rest every week which they could spend in their own accommodation away from their employers’ houses.- Source: New Straits Times

Continue reading
