It is the year 2013. Mayan calendar has ended and the apocalypse did not materialise. Floods still affected people in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia as Malaysians wait for the BR1M 2.0 and the 13th General Election set to be held any time this year. Elsewhere, ‘Skyfall’ became the first 007 movie to generate more than $1 billlion ticket sales while people of India are still raging over the horrific death of rape victim. My kids started schooling today but it did not stop me from sleeping very late last night to watch my beloved Manchester United in action. Oh yeah, my wife did complained a bit about that
The year may have changed, but it is business as usual at Old Trafford. A convincing win on top of another polished display mark a great start to the coming year of the snake and there is no reason for the Red Devils not to feel upbeat as Premier League enters the second half of the season. Even the 71-year old grandpa, Sir Alex Ferguson, is in the mood and declared he’s not ready to make way for a new boss at OT and why not, when he has Robin Van PERFECT in his team.
When RVP signed for Manchester United, many club fans greeted the news with disbelief. Not just because it is not so often that a player from Arsenal move to Old Trafford due to the rivalry between the two clubs, but also because of the fact that Manchester United have beaten moneybags like Manchester City and Chelsea in the race for Van Persie’s signature. It is a huge coup for the club and after 6 months at Old Trafford the flying Dutchman has more than justify his £24 million price tag. Nineteen goals and superb all round games, some of the pundits are beginning to run out of superlatives to describe Robin Van Persie.
At the beginning of the week, Manchester City’s manager Roberto Mancini confessed that the club’s failure to add RVP to their team could be the key factor determining the Premier League race this season. The Italian must be so annoyed when Robin Van Persie decided to snub multi-million offers from his club for a chance to play with their crosstown rival, Manchester United. His counter-part at United, Sir Alex Ferguson however, must be delighted to get the former Arsenal man. After the Wigan game last night, Sir Alex has even declared RVP as a COMPLETE FOOTBALLER. Yup, RVP is a perfect player and perfect for Manchester United. Fans might even forget that the club also has Wayne Rooney in their bills. The United No. 10 missed out 3 games in a row through injury in which the team won all of them and scored 10 goals in the process.
The best thing about Robin Van Persie is the guy is so consistent. You don’t see many of his shoots off the target. He can play on top with Rooney behind him or behind the main striker like he did against Wigan as Javier Hernandez lead the attack. He is also good at set pieces and this has given Manchester United added value this season. His delivery from free kicks and corners were excellent. No wonder, United has score more goals from set pieces than any other team in the Premier League this season.
If RVP can stay fit throughout this season, there is no reason for Manchester United not to regain the English Premier League from City. In fact, they can win a lot this season with the depth of the squad they have. Apart from Rooney, there are a few other top players missing from Wigan game including captain Nemanja Vidic, Antonio Valencia and Brazilian Anderson. Manchester United at full strength is capable of beating any team in the world including the mighty Barcelona. With Robin Van Perfect in team, you sense that 2013 could be Manchester’s year (That’s Manchester United by the way and not their ‘one season wonder’ noisy neighbour ).
