Honestly, we did not expect Manchester City to falter at Etihad Stadium last night and they certainly did not, although they needed some miraculous comeback with two goals scored in the last three minutes. Nonetheless, we had our moments and for almost 30 minutes, we thought that we will be crowned champion again for the 20th time, a new League record. And when Mr Howard Webb blown the final whistle at the Stadium of Light, all the travelling away fans were singing with joy thinking that we have done enough but it was not to be. 30 seconds later, Sergio Aguero, son-in-law of the great Diego Maradona struck the goal that broke our heart.
What a cruel blow! We didn’t expect to win but then we were given some hope and that false hope was one that makes it harder for us to swallow. It could have been easy for us had City won comfortably with two or three goal margin. But, perhaps somebody wants us to suffer big time! Just to make us taste what our noisy neighbour had tasted for the last four decades or so.
So where to go from here? Could this be the end of an era as predicted by the media? Of course, you shouldn’t believe half of what the media says. More often than not, their predictions are way off mark! But, Manchester United’s fans must be worried with City now. Their financial clout is greater than what United had faced in the past. Richer than Chelsea, crazier than Real Madrid! To some extent, they proved that money can buy happiness.
In the hindsight, this could be a good thing for the Red Devils. If there is any thought of retiring in the mind of Sir Alex, that thought must have blown away now. The greatest football manager on earth would cherish new challenge from Manchester City having seen off Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea before. He will be eager to build a new a generation of Manchester United team that will do battle with their city rival and as always the Gaffer will be determined to comes up on top once again. Another three or more years of Sir Alex in charge of Manchester United will be a welcome news for United fans. As always, in Sir Alex we trust!
While we are bitterly disappointed not to win this season, we believe that we will come back stronger next season. The Empire will strike back and the 20th title will come to Old Trafford sooner rather than later. The young lads like Smalling, Claverly,De Gea, Jones, Rafael, Welbeck will get better next season while we welcome back injured skipper Nemanja Vidic and influential midfielder Darren Fletcher(hopefully) from their long lay-off. Then, there should be a couple of new signing to beef the squad and we’ll be fine next season.
Congratulations to Manchester City and we’ll be looking forward to do battle with the blue side of Manchester once again. It has been a marvellous season with plenty of surprises along the way. The fact that the title was only decided in the last minute of the game of the season serves as evidence that the English Premier League is the most entertaining football league in the world if not the best.
- The Empire Will Strike Back!
