Given a chance, I bet many people would prefer to stay at home than drive through the traffic jam every day to work. With the advancement of technology and internet, you can now communicate, share information and negotiate without having to meet face to face with your employers and clients. Thus giving you a chance to earn income at the comfort of your home – something that many people are currently doing nowadays. In fact, according to a report by Stanford University (prepared by Nicholas Bloom, James Liang, John Roberts and Zhichun Jenny Ying), 10% of US employees now regularly work from home. A trend that is now spreading to the rest of the world, including in Malaysia.
If you are a regular internet user, you will notice that many companies are providing the opportunity to work from home. These jobs are available on a full-time and part-time basis. With the beauty of this growing system of employment, many people worldwide are given the opportunity to work from their homes regardless of their geographic location. You can live in Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand and get instructions from your bosses or clients from US or UK. You will then be paid via cheque, wireless inter-banking transaction, Paypal, etc. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
Working from home provides you the financial freedom and time flexibility. On top of that you don’t have to face the wrath of your bosses if you make mistakes or worry about punch card or deadlines. Of course, if you don’t deliver your work on time, your reputation will be severely dented and less opportunity will come your way in the future.
There are many friends who asked me: “How do you make money online?” or “How can anyone work from home?” It is quite a difficult question to answer and in many case, it rest on factors such as the skills that you possess, how determined or disciplined you are to work without supervision, the tools that you have, the number of hours that you can allocate daily to do the online jobs, etc.
I see many Malaysians prefer to blog and earn money via advertising spaces in their blogs or getting commissions from affiliate programs. Yes, that is one way to work from home. But to do that, you should also possess blogging skills and the know-how to promote your blogs or products. Other skills such as Search Engine Optimization and Social-Medias marketing will also be useful should you choose this path.
Alternatively, you can choose from one of the many simple jobs that are available online. Simple jobs like data entry, typing, translation are being sourced out by companies or individuals all over the world as many are trying to avoid the many problems that come with hiring people to do such jobs. Instead of hiring people on contracts of service, they advertise through internet to look for those interested to work under the terms of contract for services. So, basically when you work from home, you actually become an independent contractor who gets paid upon delivering the product or services according to the terms set up between you and the company that hire you online.
This type of job is rather simple and easy to do. It does not require you to set up a website nor you have to be an excellent entrepreneur to be successful. Note that since email is the preferred method of communication for most employers you will find that very often you will complete a job without ever meeting face-to-face or even speaking to the employer. In fact, there are some jobs where the freelancer doesn’t even know the name of their employer.
If you have advanced skill such as writing or designing skills, then your chance of getting hired to do the job online will be significantly increased. There are many companies that are looking for good copywriters and are willing to pay big bucks for providing content for their sites.
Job Di Rumah
The common ways are by goggling the internet and look for websites that provide such opportunity. But because of the threat for scams in many companies offering work-from-home jobs, it is imperative for every interested applicant of this kind of job to be prudent in choosing the company to sign on with. Make sure to work only for legitimate companies. Exhaust efforts to prove that the company you are about to work with will not deprive you off the financial reward of your efforts.
For Malaysians who are interested in the data entry, typing and other simple online jobs, I recommend that you subscribe to Job Di Rumah. However, please bear in my mind that you need to make effort to impress your prospective bosses before you can start earning income online using this method. There are many people all over the world seeking this type of job as well, so be prepared to fight for the job that you want the most. Do read carefully the instructions given by Job Di Rumah before you start applying for any job. If possible, take all the recommended tests and complete your resume/CV to entice more people to hire you. Don’t just sit down and relax. While working from home provides you with the convenience of working from the comfort of your home, it still requires you to make some effort before you can generate income online.
Note that Job Di Rumah does not provide you the jobs. They are merely guidelines (a very useful one) to prepare you to work from home. Plus, they will also update you with jobs that are suitable for you that you can apply. If you think you are ready to start applying, then you should subscribe to Job Di Rumah or just ‘google’ the internet (will be tougher though) and look for companies that offer for such jobs.
Some of these will have immediate openings and others will say they are no longer taking applicants at this time. Keep these in mind to apply to at a later time. Some of these job opportunities are what I consider strictly data entry jobs where the only duty performed is inputting information into a database for use on a computer. For example, typing the names and addresses of hand written contest entries into the proper fields in a database to convert this information into a digital form searchable by the fields in that database such as name and address.
There are also other fields that include data entry as part of the job description such as Customer Service Representative, Virtual Assistant and Transcriptionist. These can be considered under separate category requiring additional skills.
There are several methods of payments that can be used but many freelancers prefer to be paid via Paypal or Cheque. It is easier, safer and less hassle. I think Malaysians will rather use Paypal than cheque to save themselves from extra bank charges and the inconvenience of going to the bank to bank-in the cheque. So, you haven’t get a Paypal account, I recommend you get one before you start your online job.

You reward will be…
I think the above should be enough to cover the introduction on ‘Work From Home’ and “Job Di Rumah’. More information and job list can be found when you subscribe to Job Di Rumah. I really cannot divulged it more here, to avoid infringing their copyright Nonetheless, you should know that work from home jobs has gained preference among Internet users these days because of the opportunity to earn income with the convenience of time and freedom while earning in the comfort of your home. One can cut their traveling time and expenses reporting to office everyday. More output from work is generated in lieu of traveling time in coming to work and back home. It is however prudent to note that although it provides a great income stream, there is a potential danger of scams lurking around online hence it also calls for an educated judgment when searching for a legitimate work from home jobs.
