This an old photos of The Petronas Towers aka Petronas Twin Towers aka Menara Berkembar Petronas. I have been keeping these inside my hard drives since 2011. Well, it is time to put it into good use I think. The Petronas Twin Towers are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The building was officially opened by Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad on 1 August 1999.

On April 15, 1996, the Council on Tall Buildings named the Petronas Towers the tallest in the world. It remains as the tallest buildings in the world from until surpassed by Taipei 101 in 2004.

The towers were designed by Argentinian architect César Pelli. They chose a distinctive postmodern style to create a 21st century icon for Kuala Lumpur.  Supported by 75-by-75-foot concrete cores and an outer ring of widely-spaced super columns, the towers showcase a sophisticated structural system that accommodates its slender profile and provides from 14,000 to 22,000 square feet of column-free office space per floor.

In both engineering and design, the Petronas Towers succeed at acknowledging Malaysia’s past and future, embracing the country’s heritage while proclaiming its modernization. The end result, says Pelli, is a monument that is not specifically Malaysian, but will forever be identified with Kuala Lumpur.
