They said you don’t win English Premier League in February. However, the way Manchester United is playing and how Man City is collapsing at the moment; you don’t see the League title going anywhere but to Old Trafford. It looks like the first part of the Treble is all but in the bag and the bookmakers have begun to pay out for bets on Manchester United to regain their Premier League title after Sir Alex Ferguson’s team finished the weekend 12 points ahead of their city rivals, with only 12 games to go. Well, the Red Devils may have blown an eight-point lead with six games to go last term, but the clinical manner of yesterday win showed they are not in the mood to make the same mistake twice. I certainly hope they won’t!
If Manchester United go on and win their 20th EPL title this season, then many will point out to the signing of Robin Van Persie (RVP) at the start of the season as one of the major factor. With 10 goals from the last 10 matches, Wayne Rooney seems to remind everyone that there is another top class striker at Manchester United other than Robin Van Persie. While focus has been on the Dutchman this season, Manchester United’s No. 10 is quickly getting back to his old best and with Mexican, Javier Hernandez also banging goals for fun, not many will bet against the Red Devils clinching their 20th Premier League title come May 2013. The only problem is how to balance the need to regain the title from Manchester City and the desire to win another Champion League and FA Cup title this season.
City’s coach, Roberto Mancini seems to be confident that Manchester United will drop many points from this month to May as they enter the busy periods full with Premier League, Champion League and FA Cup fixtures. Sir Alex definitely has his eyes fixed on UEFA Champion League match against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid on 13th February and will try to make sure that all his key players will be available and fit for that game. That will bring us to the question of what sort of team will he put up against Everton in Premier League match 3 days earlier? Continue reading
