WordPress 3.5 Is Elvin

It is 12-12-12 today and what do you know, WordPress has a surprise in store for us. I was helping out my wife this morning with her blog posting when I realised that there is a new update for WordPress. It is not just the usual security updates or minor add-on from WordPress. In fact it is the newly launched WordPress 3.5, codename ‘Elvin’.

They decided to name it Elvin in honor of drummer Elvin Jones, who played with John Coltrane in addition to many others. The most notable changes was made to the media uploading tools (Read  Dylan Tweney’ posting on this one HERE) and the new default theme – Twenty Twelve, a simple, flexible, and yet elegant WordPress theme.

With WordPress 3.5, adding media has been streamlined with an all-new experience, making it a breeze to upload files and place them into your posts. WordPress says working with the new image management system is “a beautifully simple experience.”

In the announcement, WordPress and Automattic founder Matt Mullenweg says that “media has long been a friction point and we’ve listened hard and given a lot of thought into crafting this new system.” Those working with lots of photos like me, will feel that the new tool is very useful and helpful and I must say that based on my experience when uploading photos this morning, the new feature will be a big hit with WordPress users.

Other updates include refreshed styles for the dashboard and a new color picker. The whole admin area has now also been updated to look good on high-resolution Retina displays. Please check out WordPress.Org for more details. Those who have upgraded to WordPress 3.5, feel free to share your experience here. Thank you.
