Remember this memorable song, ‘Once Upon A Dream’ from the 1959 Disney’s animated Sleeping Beauty?
Whether you’re a fan of Angelina Jolie or not, if :
- you have a kid or more;
- you’ve watched all Disney’s animated movies; or
- you’ve watched Disney’s Sleeping Beauty;
… then you should watch Disney’s ‘Maleficent’ at the theatres near you.
In case you’ve forgotten the tale, Sleeping Beauty is about a Princess (Aurora) who was cursed by Maleficent, an evil fairy, because the King forgotten to invite Maleficent to his daughter’s christening celebration.
The reasoning seems absurd, right?
Maybe that’s why the film didn’t quite perform – audience simply couldn’t believe that a powerful being could be so petty as to curse a child just because her parents forgot to send the invitation to the party.
So, this is the story from Maleficent’s point of view:
The real events that led Maleficent to curse an innocent child to an eternal sleep.
The cinema was quite packed when we went to watch Maleficent last night. We watched the 9.40pm show, but none in our group (from 5 to 65 years old) dozed off even a second during the entire show.
Although Maleficent is not as enchanting as ‘Enchanted‘ (2007), nor as wonderful as the popular Frozen (with its catchy songs), I would say that it was an enjoyable treat.
Jolie is perfect as Maleficent, Elle Fanning is simply charming as Aurora and the baby Aurora and child Aurora (Jolie’s real daughter) were cute as buttons.
The movie reminds me of Oprah’s words : “Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother.”
Go and watch the show. 😀
In the meantime, let’s listen to this haunting version of ‘Once Upon A Dream’ by Lana Del Rey for Maleficent.
