About Mee Bandung
Mee Bandung, is a traditional malay cuisine (noodle) which originated from Muar, Johor.
The word ‘bandung‘ is not to be confused with Bandung, Indonesia as it actually has malay meaning, i.e “mixed” or “pairs“. A check on the recipe, you will find that Mee Bandung consists of several ingredients that are mixed together.
Hence the name “mee bandung” was given.
Originally mee bandung consisted of only noodles and eggs besides its soup that was made of a mixture of chilli, onion, spices, etc. However, today the Mee bandung recipe has been improved with the addition of meat, shrimps, fish cakes and vegetables. It also can be found all over Malaysia but without a shadow of doubt the one in Muar is still the best!
The Best Place To Eat Mee Bandung In Muar
So where in Muar can you find the best Mee Bandung?
I know many tourists will stop at Jalan Abdullah to eat Mee Bandung but the best one isn’t there. Well, that is according to my own experience. Do talk to local folks for more info, especially the older generation. To me, you should go to either Jalan Junid (night time only) or Tanjung Agas (Kg.Kenangan Tun Syed Nasir) for the ultimate experience of Mee Bandung Muar. The one at Jalan Sulaiman and Medan Selera are also not bad either.
Mee Bandung Gravies
Like nasi goreng, mee goreng and many other traditional malay cousine, you can also find Mee Bandung gravies (perencah mee bandung) on the market.
The most popular gravy in Muar is Perencah Mee Bandung Muar by Hj. Sernan.
I brought a few packets back to Kota Kinabalu since I can’t find any restaurant here that sells authentic Mee Bandung. It is easy to cook and it tastes quite delicious.
So if anyone of you stop by the Royal Town of Muar, please don’t forget to try out the amazingly delicious Mee Bandung Muar. Not recommended for those who doesn’t like spicy food, though!
