I love to sample products and getting samples of beauty products online for free is a wonderful thing. Men must accept this fact – women need to try out many products before we decide on the ones that we like or our skin needs. Plus, samples of beauty products save us the pain of wasting money buying unsuitable skincare items and not to mention the heart-wrenching decision of having to throw away our new and expensive beauty products.
So, it’s really great that cosmetics and skincare companies are now helping us make better decisions by offering samples of their new products for us to try out for free.
Wrinkles And Dark Spots
Being above 40 and exposed to the glare of sunlight daily, the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots are unavoidable, unfortunately. In my case, the appearance of brown spots on the cheeks can really be depressing. Although I’ll be a nenek (grand auntie) when my married nieces and nephews have kids in a few years’ time, I really don’t want to feel old.
As I stated time and time again, I wish to age gracefully, so I need the help of skincare and cosmetics to do that. I’m not ashamed to admit to desiring a healthy-looking skin more than pretty clothes and trendy electronic gadgets.
Beauty Products Online
Anyway, a few weeks after Raya (July – August), I had the pleasure of trying out a few samples from Lancome, Biotherm and Clarins, and I learned about all these beauty products online. Basically, I know what my skin concerns are but I just don’t know whether they can be effectively addressed.
Let’s start with Lancome, because I tried it on first. At that time, my skin was desperate for help because it was truly exhausted from all the fun and activities of pre-Raya until post-Raya celebrations, coupled with hours of traveling and of course, lack of sleep and more than a little too much of fatty and sweet food.
Plus, I was to accompany Hubby to a few functions!
From Lancome, I received samples of their Energie de Vie collection, a skincare range that is inspired by new Korean beauty technology to combat tired, dull looking skin. Enriched with leaves of French Melissa, Goji Berry extract, Lemon Balm oil, Gentian and other amazingly beneficial plants, it’s purpose is to help skin look energised, healthier, and hydrated.
Let me shout it here – I love the pack!
These are the samples that I tried out (all are formulated WITHOUT Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates):
1. Energie de Vie Pearly Wake up Lotion (Smoothing and Plumping Pearly Lotion)
Meant to revitalize tired and dry skin, this was the first thing that I used in the morning, after cleansing. I just pat it gently all over my face before I applied the moisturiser. It felt like a serum/essence but very light and has a very pleasant scent. My tired skin was instantly hydrated, looked revitalised and refreshed.
This refreshing Pearly Lotion is formulated with goji berry, lemon balm, and vitamin E. It is said that the unique texture of oil droplets suspended in water fuels the skin with bursts of hydration. Its anti-fatigue formula provides 24-hour hydration while replumping and revitalizing the skin for an instantly glowing complexion.
Frankly, I don’t understand those statements, but I noticed a significant improvement within the first two applications. I can’t say that my skin glowed, but it definitely improved a lot in terms of looking revitalised.
Aqua, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Zea Mays Oil / Corn Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract, Lactic Acid, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylcellulose, Trimethyl Pentaphenyl Trisiloxane, Calcium Chloride, Chlorphenesin, Gellan Gum, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Oil, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Xanthan Gum, Pentylene Glycol, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Dioscorea Villosa Root Extract / Wild Yam Root Extract, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Prunus Armeniaca Kernel Oil / Apricot Kernel Oil, Hexyldecanol, Oryza Sativa Bran Oil / Rice Bran Oil, Fragrance.
2. Energie de Vie Liquid Moisturiser (Smothing and Glow Boosting Liquid Care)
This is an energizing antioxidant liquid moisturizer that refreshes, protects, and hydrates tired skin for an instant dewy glow. With at least 30 leaves of lemon balm and 100mg of goji berry in each bottle, it works wonders to make the skin look like it had enjoyed sufficient snooze time and a great workout. They call it the ‘post-gym glow’ in a bottle. Away you go ‘Dull Skin Tone’!
For my tired and ageing skin, and with the daily onslaught of stress, pollution, lack of sleep and etc, this wonderful moisturiser is a blessing. I applied it after the Pearly Lotion and really enjoyed the feel.
Water, Glycerin, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Alcohol Denat., Propylene Glycol, Dimethicone, Peg-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Ci 19140 / Yellow 5, T-Butyl Alcohol, Tocopherol, Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract, Lactic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Caffeine, Ppg-6-Decyltetradeceth-30, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Oil, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Limonene, Xanthan Gum, Pentylene Glycol, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Dioscorea Villosa Root Extract / Wild Yam Root Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Disodium Edta, Butylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Citral, Hexyldecanol, Glyceryl Isostearate, Fragrance.
3. Energie de Vie Sleeping Mask (Overnight Recovery Sleeping Mask)
I used this at night as a night cream, substituting the Liquid Moisturiser when I need a boost for the next day. It could also be applied as an anti-fatigue face mask – applied a generous amount on the skin and leave it on for 10 minutes and then remove it gently with a tissue (but I also read that it could be left on the skin overnight). It definitely helps to moisturise and smoothen the skin.
Infused with goji berry, lemon balm, and vitamin E to provide our skin with antioxidant protection from free radicals. It’s texture is thicker than Pearly Lotion and Liquid Moisturiser, but it doesn’t feel too thick for our warm humid nights.
Water, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Propanediol, Dimethicone/Peg-10/15 Crosspolymer, Tocopherol, Alcohol, Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract, Lactic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Chlorphenesin, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Oil, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Limonene, Pentylene Glycol, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Dioscorea Villosa Root Extract / Wild Yam Root Extract, Dipropylene Glycol, Disodium Edta, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Citral, Hexyldecanol, Fragrance.
Here is a pic of me after using Energie de Vie.
See the fresh, glowy and radiant complexion? Achieved that photogenic look despite my tiredness, very little workout, etc, on the 3rd day of using Energie de Vie. No touch ups or beauty apps, and we got the pic from hubby’s colleague. I only used Laneige BB Cream, lipstick and a bit of eyeshadow and eyeliner. Totally no blusher and concealer. I really believe that a sufficiently hydrated skin not only looks good but it also enhances the effects of the cosmetics that we put on our skin. The BB Cream glided smoothly, with no chalkiness nor patchiness. Who would have thought that it could be achieved so fast and without the need to go for facials and spa?
I thank my lucky star that I found this beauty product online!
As for Biotherm, I had the privilege of trying out its samples of New Aquasource Everplump. It’s basically a moisturiser that simultaneously plumps up and smooths the skin. Firstly, I must say that their Junior Beauty Advisor at the Suria KK counter is really great. Very helpful and really eager to assist with any questions that I may have. However, it’s hard to appreciate the moisturiser after I have experienced Lancome’s Energie de Vie. To be fair, Aquasource was only 1 product (a moisturiser) while Energie de Vie came in 3 (essence, moisturiser & mask). Then, Aquasource works to plump up the skin while Energie de Vie revitalizes.
As you can see above, the ingredients are paraben-free but with only a small amount of natural plants extracts. I think Aquasource could have been effective in reducing fine lines, however the results were not as visible in that short time. If I were older and with more wrinkles, I might appreciate Aquasource Everplump more.
Clarins samples came in 3 – Anti-Ageing Treatment Essences Super Restorative Treatment Essence, Extra-Firming Day Wrinkle Lifting Cream and Extra-Firming Night Rejuvenating Cream. There are actually 3 types of Treatment Essences and I really don’t know whether I got this one because of my age or skin condition, the beauty assistant didn’t explain when I asked. She was very busy at that time attending to another potential customer and barely even looked at me as she handed the sample. Maybe I did look terribly old that day, hence the Restorative Treatment Essence.
My apologies for the blurry photos above. It was taken in haste and I didn’t really plan on writing this review at first. But as you can see, Clarins really love fragrance as it is placed in the upper middle of the list not at the end, unlike most skincare products which usually has ‘fragrance’ at the end of the list. Plus 5 more fragrances at the end. If not for the presence of plant extracts such as Avena Sativa Kernel Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Coffea Robusta Seed Extract, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Leaf, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Pelvetia Canaliculata Extract and Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract, the ingredient list would look quite conventional.
From my readings, I surmise that the Treatment Essence functions is a skin conditioner that preps the skin to fully benefit from the skin care products applied afterwards. It also aims to soften the skin, making it supple to the touch and visibly radiant. Although the Essence was more than sufficient to be used with the day and night cream, the effects weren’t as noticeable in the short period of time. But I still have a soft spot for Clarins because of its UV Plus Multi Protection SPF 40 – Day Screen High Protection.
Thankfully, all these beauty products did not cause any adverse effects on my skin. Based on this experience I conclude that, during periods of prolonged lack of rest, intense stress or simply due to natural ageing process, when the skin becomes rough, dull and saggy, Energie de Vie range does help to quickly revitalize the skin. Biotherm and Clarins may also work wonders, but they require time to show results.
Isn’t it wonderful that we don’t even have to sweat to try out new products and that it is possible to get excellent beauty products online in a jiffy? In my case, it was truly amazing because I found a fantastic product that made my skin feel refreshed, brightened up my dull looking skin, worked well with the BB cream and has a very pleasant scent.
In case you’re interested, the RSP for the Smoothing & Plumping Pearly Lotion is RM200, the Smoothing & Glow-Boosting Liquid Care is RM220 and the Overnight Recovery Sleeping Mask is RM220 (inclusive of GST).
So ladies, what are you waiting for? Be brave and give your skin the opportunity to glow.
