I love surfing for beauty products online. It has become my preferred method of buying skincare that I don’t remember when’s the last time I bought skincare item in a physical store. The reason? Buying beauty products online gives me the time to do research and make decisions without the pressures of time nor the hassles of having to repeatedly drive to the stores. One of my favourite sites for buying beauty products online is Hermo, and I’m now using skincare from Nature Republic.
Hermo By Nature Republic

Since last month, I have the privilege of trying out a few Nature Republic beauty products courtesy of Hermo’s excellent team. Nature Republic is an innovative Korean skincare brand which emphasizes on naturalistic skincare and cosmetics, delivering the ultimate beauty energy from real clean nature for a healthy and joyful lifestyle.
In its product packaging, Nature Republic stresses that it strives ‘to find the precious life energy in the midst of scorching deserts, the vast extent of wild savannah, and in the profound of deep ocean’. I may not follow the Korean 10 or 12-step beauty routine, but as a Korean-drama fan, I constantly marvel at the Korean ladies’ gorgeous skin and I am now following the rest of the world in experiencing their skincare traditions.
Bee Venom Cleansing Foam
As always, the first step in a beauty routine is the cleanser. In this case, the first item is Bee Venom Cleansing Foam. On the pack it is stated:
The cleansing foam for acne-prone skin contains bee venom and anti-acne complex.
I think I can guess what’s buzzing in your mind – bee venom??!!! Arghhh....but don’t be afraid because surprisingly, the combination of bee venom extract and salicylic acid offers skin care for sensitive skin. Salicylic acid is known for its abilities to gently exfoliate and retexture skin. And Nature Republic is not using just any bee venom, it’s Scandinavian bee venom that comes from healthy bees in the southern Swedish regions of Stromsnasbruk and Hjarnarp.
How about that!
Now, what is it about bee venom that’s so special that it’s used in this particular skincare?
Bee venom is actually famed for its anti-aging properties. The essence of bee venom can stimulate the skin’s repair processes which help to firm and plump up fine lines and wrinkles. When used in cleansers, Bee Venom assists in energising the skin’s natural activity of renewing and repairing. In this case, the cleanser clears away dirt and make up while salicylic acid smooths away dead skin and other surface imperfections that may cause breakouts and other skin concerns. The wonderful essential oils such as Lavandula Angustifolia, (Lavender) Oil and Olea Europea (Olive) Fruit Oil (among others) and Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil work together to help relieve skin conditions aggravated by stress, healing wounds, combating blemishes, nourishing and softening the skin.
How’s that for a bee-u-tiful skin?
Another interesting fact is that this foam cleanser contains lactobacillus (a compound of bacillus, fermented milk/sugar, bee venom salicylic acid and 83% bee venom complex), which makes it an effective Acne fighting solution. And I thought only yogurt and other healthy food contains lactobacillus! Dermatologically tested Nature Republic’s Bee Venom Cleansing Foam strives to control PH level and relieve skin stress, act on acne germs, sanitize bacteria, unclog pores and break down build-up of dirt.
My daughters and I are using it and we find that it gently cleanses and do not leave any feelings of discomfort such as tightness or itchiness. My daughters’ acne was significantly reduced after 3 days of using the cleanser morning and evening. The acne is not completely gone yet, but at least it’s not so obvious anymore.
Those who have had acne problems know that it’s not easy to get rid of acne as it’s not only caused by skin conditions but also stress, food, hormones, etc.
Let’s have a look at the ingredient list – it really does incorporate many wonderful plant extracts, most having medicinal properties :
I don’t see any fragrance or parfum on the list, so I guess the lovely aroma is produced by the many wonderful plant oils. If you’re interested in trying out Bee Venom Cleansing Foam, it retails at RM49.90. There are also other products in the Bee Venom line such as Toner, Emulsion, Mist Essence, etc.
Nature Republic Real Squeeze Aloevera Toner
Nature Republic’s Real Squeeze Aloevera Toner which features aloe vera from California, feels very hydrating and refreshing. I’m normally not a fan of toners due to its usually drying qualities (and not to mention the many bad reps about them), but Real Squeeze Alovera Toner is actually quite gentle. It’s bountiful aloe vera goodness is easily absorbed by the skin. Thicker in consistency than the usual toner, it doesn’t feel like a conventional toner to me, more like an essence. I think this toner, with aloe extract, preps the skin with moisture while restoring the skin’s PH balance after cleansing. It feels more like a skin conditioner, which is the second step in most organic skincare ritual (after cleansing).
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract is at the top of the ingredient list which means that it makes up a majority of this toner.
This is great since aloe is anti-inflammatory and is well-known for soothing everything from sunburns to rashes.
For thousands of years, aloe vera’s moisturizing properties are favoured by many as it is easily absorbed and it doesn’t leave a greasy or heavy feeling. Aloe also contains vitamins and minerals that our skin needs. It is truly an incredible skincare ingredient. A further scrutiny down the ingredient list, I was impressed with the presence of Aloe vera leaf Polysaccharides and fruit ferments and extracts. I’m not an expert, but I suppose their functions are, among others, to clear any dead skin residues left after cleansing and enhancing the skin renewal process. Accumulation of dead skin not only interferes with skin regeneration process, it blocks out glow, causing the skin to look dull or less radiant.
Just like the usual toner, after cleansing, pump Aloe toner onto cotton pad or palm and gently spread over face. I find one pump more than adequate to cover my whole face and neck. Pat for better absorption and then followed by emulsion/moisturiser. Its effect is stated as regeneration, moisture, revitalizing and soothing. Me – I lightly massage onto skin and leave it on for a couple of minutes before I apply the next step. There’s a bit of sticky residue remaining, which I think is good as it shows that although there is alcohol denat present, its drying effects are under control, probably by the aloe. I am not keen on the presence of alcohol denat because although it dissolves surface oil, it also dries out skin. But in this case, perhaps aloe vera helps to balance the skin moisture because aloe is a very hydrating ingredient. Anyway, let me emphasize it again – Aloe is the first ingredient in the list which means that it is the most used in terms of quantity compared to all the rest.
In case you’re wondering, here are the ingredients that work together to make this gentle Aloe toner :
Real Nature Rose Essence
Nature Republic’s Real Nature Rose Essence (50ml) contains damask rose water 1,250ppm. Rose water has been used since early Egypt, maybe even before Cleopatra famously used it in her skincare routine. It has natural revitalizing and anti-aging properties which helps to make the skin smoother and thus reducing wrinkles. According to Skin Deep, Rosa Damascena Flower Water is an aqueous solution of the steam distillate obtained from the flowers of Rosa damascena.
It’s functions, among others, are skin conditioning, skin protecting and masking.
The water from the lovely blossoms of Rosa Damascena is also well known as having soothing and anti-inflammatory effects on rash and skin irritation. Damask rose is said to contain rich vitamins that provide vitality and moisture to the skin.
Now, is it a wonder that I adore Real Nature Rose Essence?
Rose Essence has a light moisturizing effect which I think is perfect for me who has combination-oily skin. Using this Essence means that my skin is benefiting from the regenerative properties of rose water combined with rose-hip oil (Rosa Canina Fruit Oil). Rose-hip oil is famed for its unique ability to deeply nourish and balance all skin types, due to its anti-oxidants and vitamins properties.
Have a look at its ingredients :
I apply Rose Essence mostly during the day because it’s non-greasy therefore my skin won’t feel too oily when I sweat (which I always do). I love the fact that Rose Essence is equipped with a pump that has a stopper to prevent accidental spillage and kept in an opaque bottle. One pump is more than adequate to cover my whole face. What could really make this better is if real essential rose oil is used instead of fragrance because although rose oil is very expensive, its therapeutic benefits are enormous.
Snail Solution Emulsion
At first I thought that the name ‘Snail’ denotes that this skincare moves slowly but surely. Alas, it turns out that Nature Republic Snail Solution Emulsion really contains snail secretion filtrate extracted from pristine natural areas.
Why snail extract?
According to The Coveteur:
Snail extract or snail mucin, is “packed with nutrients such as hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, proteoglycans and antimicrobial and copper peptides, all of which are commonly used in beauty products and proven to be beneficial for the skin…..are known to be anti-aging by stimulating the formation of collagen and elastin, repair damaged skin, and restore hydration…
The Snail Solution Emulsion, which contains 76% snail secretion, is an intensive skin care line that aims to make the skin look healthier and radiant by providing vitality to stressed-out skin. The presence of lecithin is to firm and smooth out the skin. It doesn’t clog pores, it is rather sticky and thick but lighter than the usual moisturiser. I guess the lovely scent that I detect could be from Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract (vanilla extract).
The bottle has a unique look and like the others, one pump is sufficient.
As we can see from the lost below, it is made of Snail Secretion Filtrate and many more :
Nature Republic Advanced Cell Boosting EX Eye Cream
Nature Republic’s Advanced Cell Boosting EX Eye Cream is part of a set of premium cosmetics made to revitalise skin elasticity, skin clarity and skin vitality. The active ingredient of Neofinetia Falcata Callus Culture Extract works for a more radiant and brighter skin. In the EX Eye Cream, many plants and fermented mushrooms are included such as Ganodermalucidum, Grifola Frondosa, Inonotus Obliquus, Sparassis Crispa and Phellinus Linteus to supply abundant nutrients which aims to provide moisture and resilience around the dry eye area.
Compared to the formulation that I saw from 2012, Advanced Cell Boosting EX eye cream has gone through a couple of improvements not just in terms of the packaging style, but also in terms of ingredients. It has done away with the few types of parabens and reduced the amount of fragrance.
Here are the ingredients – notice the many, many plant extracts and shea butter, macadamia seed oil and beeswax present in the bottle? No wonder the eye cream is thick and concentrated.
Since the cream is very thick and concentrated, so a little bit goes a long way. I use it only at night because when I sweat, the residue of the cream mixed with sweat will definitely sting my eyes. The eye cream comes in a double lining container (an inner jar), complete with a spoon. I suppose it cannot be packaged in a bottle with a pump because its rich creamy texture would not flow out easily.
So far, there is no adverse reaction and because they are mostly natural products, the effects should be slow but steady. The product packaging is splendidly opaque, which is very important for natural products. Opaque bottles help to protect the contents from the effects of sunlight and thus prolonging its life span, but the problem is, I may not know when it’s due for replacement because I can’t see a thing.
I love the fact that Nature Republic continues to improve its beauty products and incorporate as much beneficial plant extracts and oils in them. However, I wish the product description has more English language, in the website and on the product packaging. I really would love to go through the details of each product.
These are all splendid natural skincare, so take your time when using them. If possible, allow some time in between each skincare routine – let the skin savour each product, feel the ingredients sink in and be absorbed properly before continuing with the next step of your beauty ritual. Love your skin.
