Research indicates that good looking people gets better employment and promotion opportunities – especially when it is coupled with skill, talent and good personality. While being ‘too pretty’ may go against a woman (me thinks the green-eyed monster of jealousy could be the culprit), looking pleasantly youthful and well-groomed are, more often than not, advantageous for career advancement.
Many of us ladies are aware of that fact – that’s why there are so many cosmetics procedures, skin care products, tips and tricks offered everywhere, because most of us women (and also some men) care about how we look. Our skin is like a canvas, it is easier to transform and beautify if the canvas is clean and smooth.
A popular Mak Andam (wedding make-up artist) once said to me:
When the skin is perfect my task becomes easier – I need only 20 minutes to complete the look because there is nothing to camouflage and I merely need to highlight the bride’s beauty.
Healthy Looking Skin
Having a healthy looking skin also helps to boost confidence and makes us feel better (especially when there are less annoying or painful skin problems to deal with such as acne, age spots, wrinkles, etc. Of course, we all grow old – but wouldn’t we rather look old later than sooner?
Unfortunately, it is an uphill battle – as we grow older, it becomes harder to maintain our youthfulness as our body’s ability to restore itself becomes weaker. Eventually, the constant assaults by external factors (such as UV rays, wind, dust, pollutants, etc) and internal factors (such as poor diet, lack of sleep, stress, etc) will start to win and the results would be the inevitable age spots, wrinkles, dull-looking skin, and many more unpleasant skin conditions.
Evening Skin Care Routine
For those of us who would not want to endure cosmetic surgery and would like to delay the usual signs of aging I suggest taking the following steps:
- maintain a good skin care routine such as cleansing, toning, moisturizing and exfoliating. For example, read my simple home routine here and other simple tips for a radiant skin;
- make smart food choices or follow a good diet plan;
- do regular workouts, it could be as simple as walking for 10 minutes each day;
- get sufficient sleep;
- drink sufficient water.
Cleansing and moisturising in the evening is, in my opinion, one of the most difficult healthy skin care habit to maintain. In my case, that’s because I’m usually too tired by 8pm and snoozing would be like water in a desert.
But I do believe that like our body, our skin also rejuvenates itself best during our snooze time at night. Therefore, if we fail to cleanse and moisturise our skin during that time, it would be a waste of opportunity. And if we feed our skin with natural goodness, then the benefits would be multiplied, for sure.
That’s why, when there were only a few drops left of my Overnight Elixir, I took the opportunity to purchase Human Nature’s All Natural Night Moisturiser (RM36.90) because, as far as possible, I would not let my skin go ‘hungry’ even for a night.
I’m already enjoying the benefits of the Day Moisturiser, so I was curious to try out the Night Moisturiser.
Using the Human Nature Night Moisturiser is easy – just press the pump once, and that should be sufficient to cover our face and neck surface. But if you sleep with the air-conditioner on, I suggest a little bit more as the cool air would be drying. Don’t underestimate the power of the pea-sized portion – users have remarked that they saw its glowing effects within the first application!
I love it because it’s non-greasy and doesn’t clog the pores. It may not be as powerful as the Overnight Elixir, but so far, my skin doesn’t suffer from acne, dry patches, spots, etc.
Therefore, I am sticking with this wonderfully affordable and delightful Night Moisturiser.
Here are its wonderful ingredients :
aqua (water), dicaprylyl ether (vegetable-derived), glycerin, glyceryl stearate (vegetable-derived), caprylic/capric triglyceride (coconut-derived), cetearyl alcohol (vegetable-derived), capryloyl glycerin/sebacic acid copolymer and diheptyl succinate (vegetable-derived), Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, sodium lactate and sodium gluconate (sugarcane-derived), tapioca starch, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, natto gum (soybean-derived), xanthan gum, stearyl alcohol (vegetable-derived), lactic acid (plant-derived), glyceryl caprylate (coconut, palm and glycerin-derived), fragrance (all-natural), anisic acid (anise seed-derived)
SUNFLOWER BEAUTY OIL
Looking at childhood photos, I noticed that dark circles and eye-bags have been my companion since I was 10. But of course, they were not as bad as 3 decades later, what with lack of sleep, stress and so forth. When I bought the Night Moisturiser, I also decided to add the Human Nature Sunflower Beauty Oil into my skin care routine.

Verdict : As you can see in the picture below, I bought 3 bottles of the Sunflower Oil – for myself and my sisters. One of my sisters has sensitive skin and unfortunately, after a couple of applications on her face, she had a breakout – a huge pimple.
We can’t be sure that the oil caused it, as there could be many contributing factors (food, hormone, etc).
While my other sister (combination skin) who applied it onto her under eye areas saw tiny bumps appearing. I don’t think it’s milia, but we can’t be sure.
As for me, so far I’ve applied it around my eyelids and under eye (eyebags) for 2 weeks now, and the thing that I noticed the most is that my lashes are getting more visible. I don’t know whether it’s because they’ve grown darker in colour or more lashes have emerged, or both. The funny thing is, I got more visible lashes on the upper left and lower right lashes!
There goes the conundrum… How to get them balanced?
And I also use it as eye make-up remover – it’s gentle yet effective. As for my dark under-eye circles, they’ve been with me for 3 decades so I’m sure it will take more than a few weeks to see improvements. I don’t mind waiting. 😀 And I’m also using it on my hair hoping that it will help to keep my hair strong and black for another decade or more. There are more than a few users who’ve remarked on its amazing benefits when applied to their hair. I’m also thinking of using it on my lips (hope to lighten and soften) and also on my daughter’s wild set of hair.
One tip to share to reduce spillage and wastage – tilt the bottle at least 90° before you pump out the beauty oil to ensure that the whole drop falls on your skin and none wasting down the bottle. I usually pump onto the back of my left hand first, then use my right fingers to dab the oil onto my eyelids. That way, my left hand will also get the benefits. I also notice that the oil will seep through the pump if the bottle is not kept upright.
Some may wonder why I prefer Human Nature products to other products in the market.
Well, it’s because they are:
- NATURAL (not using synthetic chemicals)
- AFFORDABLE (price is not as expensive as most natural brands)
- WIDE RANGE OF CHOICE (hair care, skin care, baby care, etc)
- MULTI-FUNCTIONAL (one product can usually be used for other purposes, eg, the balancing cleanser can multi-task as a gentle body scrub)
- PHILOSOPHY (helping the small farmers)
Regarding their philosophy, I have mentioned in a previous writing about my confidence in the philosophy held by the founders of Human Nature, Anna Meloto-Wilk, Dylan Wilk and Camille Meloto, which is to end poverty among farmers in the Philippines by using their crops in HN chemical-free formulations which are not only made using natural and ethically-acquired ingredients, but are also affordable.
Their products are not only filled with natural goodness that benefits their users, the production process also benefits their suppliers – the farmers in The Phillipines, through Gawad Kalinga (a globally recognized movement that transforms slum areas into peaceful and productive communities).
Therefore, when we buy Human Nature products, we are actually helping to better the lives of small farmers.
Let’s take good care of our skin now so that we don’t have to resort to expensive and risky procedures later. Everybody has a choice – whether to take care of their skin now, improve their skin later or to just let it be.
I choose now, what about you?
