Mee Goreng Mamak, Inflation & GST

mee goreng mamak

I had mee goreng mamak and teh tarik last night. It was a simple fried noodle with chicken and the famous Malaysian tea (teh tarik). Everyone loves them. Other than roti canai and roti telur, these are the items that generate most profit for mamak restaurants. It will continue to do so until people in Malaysia decide to change their diet. I too may have to stop eating mee goreng mamak. I really need to take care of my health and eating heavy oily food like mee goreng mamak won’t do any good for me.

Plus, I must say that the mee goreng mamak has become more pricey these days.

For a glass of teh tarik and mee goreng mamak, I had to forked out RM9. It used to be around RM6 not so long ago. I’m not sure about the inflation rate in this country but judging from the menu at mamak restaurant, the rate must be quite high.

And GST hasn’t started yet!

I know the government has gone all out to convince people that GST will not cause the increase in price of goods. Perhaps, they should be honest and admit that they can’t control the price hike. People are not fools and can see what’s going on around them.

I hope the government postpone the plan to implement the GST. Now is just not the right time!
