Well, at least during Sir Alex‘s reign at Old Trafford.
Since the legendary Scotsman left, Liverpool has managed to close the gap or perhaps more precisely Manchester United has been on a decline. The fear factor has gone and if not for the heroic effort by David De Gea, The Red Devils may have found themselves languishing in the middle of the table.
As thing stand at the moment, Manchester United is in the fourth place just above their fierce rival, Liverpool.
The two teams will meet again at Anfield this weekend with Champion League spot at stake. Liverpool were on a good run and unbeaten in 2015. Manchester United meanwhile has finally found their form at the crucial stages of the competition.
Their performance against Spurs on Monday was their best ever for quite some time. The best since post-Sir Alex’ era.
So it is going to be quite a match up!
One not to be missed.
I think the first 20 minutes of the game will have a huge influence on the game. Manchester United need to set the tone to their passing game or they will be in trouble. Liverpool is a compact and fast unit, so the Red Devils need to keep the ball very well as they did against Spurs.
They wouldn’t want to see Raheem Sterling given many chances to run at Chris Smalling or Phil Jones.
With Angel Di Maria and Steven Gerrard available again, both managers have big decisions to make.
I disagree with Gary Neville that Di Maria should start over Juan Mata. As much as I like the Argentine his form does not warrant him a start in the starting line up.
As for Gerrard, his legs have really gone. He is no longer the same player that he was 3 or 4 years ago. I don’t think Brendan Rogers will play him for full 90 minutes.
So guys, what’s your verdict for this match?
A home or away win?
