I thought JDT was absolutely magnificent in their Charity Shield Cup win over Pahang last Saturday. The Southern Tigers were on the cruise control right from the kick-off and were never troubled by the Elephants despite some nervous moments in the last few minutes of the game. I think they will be unstoppable this season and a clean sweep of Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup are on card with distraction of the AFC Champions League being the only thing that could stand in their way of completing the treble.
The key to JDT’s impressive performance against Pahang must be down to their decision to retain most of last season players including their four foreign imports. That really helps keep the stability in the team. They also kept their Croatian coach, Bojan Hodak who won the Super League in his first season with JDT and made several important additions to the team. It looks like the pennies have finally dropped on JDT and they now know how to build a championship winning team. This must be a frightening development to the other teams considering how much resources they have at the moment.
I think JDT fans must be delighted to see S. Kunanlan on the right back. The Malaysian international in his debut did a wonderful job by keeping R.Gopinathan quiet. Gopi in the past has tormented the Tigers’ defence with his pace but against Kunanlan, he has finally found his match. Another important signing for JDT is Mohd Farizal Marlias who was pinched from Selangor after a great season with the Red Giants in which he has successfully overtaken Khairul Fahmi as Malaysia No. 1 goalkeeper.
Farizal completes JDT in the sense that now the southern giant has a national/former national player in every position in the team.
The Future Is Bright..
JDT can also look forward to a long period of domination after bringing in Harimau Muda’s Junior Eldstål and Gary Steven Robbat to join other Young Tiger’s graduates such as Mahali Jasuli, Mohd Fadhli Mohd Shas and Mohd Izham Tarmizi. It is a scary thought what this team can achieve over the next few seasons. I really hope they can also find success in AFC Champions League and bring Malaysia football up to another level. As for now, the FAM can start engraving JDT’s name in Super Cup yet again. The league is theirs to lose.
