All good thing must come to an end. As we bid farewell to World Cup 2014 tonight, two football nations will battle each other to claim the title as the “Best In The World“. Argentina vs Germany is the repeat of 1986 final when Diego Maradona inspired Argentina to their only second World Cup title. Can Lionel Messi do the same for the Albicelestes (sky blue and whites)? Or will Germany have their revenge this time? What say you?
Germany Is The Favourite
On form and on paper, the Germans are the favourite. Any team that inflicted Brazil with a 7-1 defeat at their own back yard must be the favourite. But form and past results count as nothing in football. You got to earn your right to become a champion and Argentina will stand between Germany and their fourth World Cup title and the first as unified Germans. Will Die Mannschaft succeed in becoming the first European team to win in South American soil?
How Is Germany Going To Win The World Cup?
Given space, Germany will hurt their opponent at their very first chance. Brazil and Portugal have experienced the power of the Germans’ attack. They are arguably the best team in this year’s World Cup and are playing football at a different level. But also shows sign of vulnerability especially when teams pressure them high above the field and stop them from playing their passing game. Still, they have much fire power and the trio of Sami Khedira, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos will control the midfield but to win they need to break that solid Argentina’s defence and slip some passes to Thomas Muller and Miroslav Klose (if he plays). At the back, Mats Hummels and Jérôme Boateng will need to keep an eye on Messi and Di Maria. The two are the most likely source of Argentina’s goal.
How Is Argentina Going To Win The World Cup?
Argentina will need to keep Thomas Muller and Co out of their penalty box as they have been lethal throughout the tournament. Javier Mascherano will have to repeat his heroic performance against Holland and restrict Germans’ attack from breaching the backline. Argentina have a solid back four with Ezequiel Garay, Pablo Zabaleta, Marcos Rojo and Martín Demichelis having such a terrific World Cup. If they can keep a clean slate, their chances are good. In Lionel Messi and Ángel di María, they have two players who are capable of producing a moment of magic. When the time arise, they will hurt the Germans and it will not be easy to stop them.
Argentina vs Germany: The Prediction
Before the World Cup started, I have already predicted that Argentina will win. I also gave hints that Germany will be the likely opponent in the final. So, I’m not going to change that. Argentina will win the World Cup and complete Brazil’s worst nightmare.
Congratulations to Germany. Die Nationalmannschaft have become the first European side to win in South American soil in expense of Argentina and to great relief of Brazil. 😀 Mario Gotze‘s goal in the 113th minute was enough for the Germans to lift the World Cup for the fourth time and the first time since the unification.
The match was headed to penalty shoot-outs when Super Mario volley home from a cross by Andre Schurrle. Argentina’s defence who have been superb throughout the tournament and haven’t conceeded a goal for more than 500 minutes finally succumbed to exhaustion as they let Gotze alone inside the penalty box and the German really took his chance very well. It was a heartbreaking moment for the Argentinians who had come close to scoring on three occasions. Gonzalo Higuain, Lionel Messi and Rodrigo Palacio all missed the golden opportunity to become a national hero. In the end, it is Mario Gotze who came as second half substitution for German’s legend, Miroslav Klose that carved his name inside the record book. Deutschland zum vierten Mal Weltmeister!
