Kasih Sayang Resort is an unassuming haven. As it is perched about 2400 feet above sea level, among the hills of Bukit Kokol which sits on the Crocker Range, the temperature is quite pleasant, between 18°C to 23°C. For those who wishes for a short retreat from the heat of Kota Kinabalu minus the long tiring trips, this is an ideal location.
It is not as far away as Kundasang and still within Kota Kinabalu, but feels like hundreds of miles away.
Our Trip To Kasih Sayang Resort
Actually, it’s only about 30 minutes’ drive from Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Still, the winding uphill drive is reminiscent of the drive to Kundasang, albeit a much shorter version.
We arrived around 12.30pm, yet the temperature was quite cool. It’s amazing that just a few minutes before, the temperature was scorching hot. Being greeted by dainty floras of amazing colours and inhaling the cool air amidst lush greenery is a treat by itself.
We had the opportunity of looking at the surroundings through a room that has a wonderful view of Kota Kinabalu city and what an amazing green scenery it was! The room has no air-condition, just a ceiling fan, but it doesn’t matter as the air was cool enough.
The back sliding door allows us to rest on the verandah overlooking a valley of tropical forest – a very relaxing spot to catch up on your readings.
The mosquito nets allow us to keep the sliding door opened in the evening while enjoying the evening breeze.
Kasih Sayang Health Resort
Kasih Sayang Health Resort is actually a health center, a place where one can have a revitalizing time rejuvenating the body, mind and soul. There are many Detoxification & Rejuvenation Packages offered which includes Body Massage with Herbal Hydrotherapy Bath or Herbal Steam Bath.
Of course, other fun activities are also available such as rubber tapping, trail walking, batik painting and roti canai or teh tarik making.
Cloud 9 Restaurant
It was past noon and we were pretty hungry, so we had our lunch at the Cloud 9 Restaurant. The meals were quite tasty and fulfilling. We tried out the Tuaran Mee, Pasta Carbonara, Lamb Chop, Sirloin Steak and Fish & Chips.
All dishes were tried and tasted by everybody and we are not shy to put our stamp of approval on them.
According to the infomation available on its site, Cloud 9 Restaurant has the capacity to entertain 120 pax and it serves both Asian & Western cuisines. The open view is splendid, as you can see from the photos here.
Unfortunately, none of us were brave enough to try out the ‘Special Heart Shape Menu‘ – 100% vegetarian, free from salt, sugar, cooking oil, processed food, and all forms of seasoning. They are part of the diet used in Dr. Lynn Tan’s therapeutic programmes, specially designed to detoxify and restore nutritional balance to your body.
I am sure it is most nutritious and beneficial for the body, but sorry, not yet.
As the sky was filled with clouds, I couldn’t get any shot of the majestic Mount Kinabalu, but we did enjoy looking at some of the 5 Islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Parks.
I was told by one of the staff there that on a clear day, we can not only see the Mount Kinabalu, the 5 Islands, but also an amazing sunset, the Kota Kinabalu night lights and also a beautiful sunrise.
A note to those who plans to drive to Rasa Sayang Resort, park uphill, if possible so that your vehicle won’t have to struggle climbing up the next hill on your way back.
I’m telling you, the hills can be quite steep at some places.
